The 30 Days Himlung Expedition brings you closer to the Nar Phu region, providing you will all the pleasures of spectacular scenarios including the snowcapped mountains over 7000 meters, among which Himlung Himal stands tall at an altitude of 7,126 meters. Our team member will be there to pick you up at Tribhuvan international airport and escort you to your accommodation on the very first day. In the remaining time, you can stroll around the streets of Basantapur, Thamel, and some other places. You will be provided with the best hospitality along with a delicious Nepali cuisine dinner. You will be staying overnight in Kathmandu.

We spend our second-day sightseeing in the beautiful city of temples. Our guide you escort you throughout your short Kathmandu tour. You can take this opportunity to visit various world heritage sites like Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath. You are likely to be stunned by the unique architecture of temples and buildings that holds the pride of the city. We will be taking short walks in different parts of the city to take a close look at various aspects that forms Kathmandu; from food to local culture. In the afternoon, we will be returning back to our accommodations and start preparing for the trip ahead. Discussions will be conducted and any queries of yours will be answered by our team. We will be staying overnight in Kathmandu.

On the third day, we will be hopping on a private vehicle and head all the way to Dharapani which is situated at an elevation of 1,943 meters. It is likely to take us about eight to nine hours to get there as we move alongside the road beside the Marshyangdi River. We will be staying overnight at Dharapani.

Our trekking begins from the fourth day as we start heading towards Koto after having early morning breakfast at Dharapani. Koto is situated at the height of 2600 meters and its route is indeed formed of various challenges for trekkers with equivalent rewards. Along the way, you will have several encounters with magical waterfalls and gorges. The route is indeed connected to the Annapurna circuit. We will be staying at Koto for the night.

On the fifth day, we will be leaving Koto and heading for Nar Phu Khola which is situated at an altitude of 2,990 meters. We will be moving through lush green vegetation and forest filled with the beauty of rhododendrons. We will be staying around Nar Phu Khola for the night.

Today, we will be moving towards Meta, also known by the name of Methang which is situated at an elevation of 3,560 meters. We will be moving through various shelters formed of caves and resting places. The ascent of Meta is certain to reward us with glorious scenarios of landscapes and mountain peaks of the Annapurna Himalayan Range.

On the seventh day, our destination is Kyang which is located at an altitude of 3800 meters. We will be leaving Meta after having an early morning breakfast and after about three hours of continued walking; we will be rewarded with gratifying views of Pisang Peak, Gyaji Kang, Tilicho Peak, and some other glorious mountains. We will be staying overnight at Kyang.

We will be heading for Phu after leaving Kyang on our eighth days of the amazing expedition. Phu is situated at 4200 meters of height which indeed brings us various uphills to ascend. Along the way, we will be encountered various Buddhist chortens and get a wonders trucking sight of Nar Phedi monastery. We will reach Phu after crossing a small bridge and stay there for the night.

Today, we will be striving to reach Himlung Base Camp from the beautiful Phu GAun. We will energize ourselves with an early morning breakfast at Phu Gaun and then begin our trek towards an altitude of 4900 meters. Facing various ups and downs along the trail, we will be moving through a magical forest and crossing some bridges to reach the Himlung Base Camp. We will stay in our tented camp for the night at Himlung Base Camp.

On the tenth day, we will be hiking to Camp I from the Himlung Base Camp. There, our camp fixing team will drop all the necessary equipment for climbing. Then again, we will hike back to the Base Camp as it will be a challenge to stay at Camp I for the night as we aren’t prepared enough.

The eleventh day is separated for resting and acclimatizing purposes at the Base Camp. We will be requiring a lot of rest and preparation as this is a very technical form of adventure. However, you can use this chance to explore various areas of the Base Camp.

Today, we will again be heading for Camp I but this time it is not just a hike rather we will be staying overnight at Camp I. Our camp fixing team will fix the tent where we will be staying for the night.

On the thirteenth day, we will be heading for Camp Ii situated at an elevation of 6,150 meters which is indeed an extreme height for anyone. So it will just be a hike and we will then be descending back to Camp I for our overnight stay after our team drops all the climbing equipment at Camp II.

Today, we will again be heading down to the Base Camp as it is a rotational trek that is required for summiting the Himlung peak successfully. We will stay overnight at the Base Camp

Another acclimatization day is here to make you fully prepared for climbing one of the technical peaks in the region. You will be practicing with the ropes and our climbing experts will guide and teach you about every other aspect of climbing today.

On the sixteenth day, we begin our ascent which leads us to Camp I. It is challenging but all the acclimatization and practices are certain to make it a little easy. Our climbing expert and other team members will instruct and accompany you all the way to the top of Camp I. We are required to do this rotational trek in order to be perfectly fit and prepared for the climbing adventure which will begin soon. We will be staying overnight at Camp I.

On the seventeenth day, we start ascending to Camp II. We begin the ascent very early in the morning to avoid any harsh weather conditions. We will be moving all the way to the top of 6,150 meters and staying overnight at Camp II.

From Camp II, we will again be heading down to the Base Camp after energizing ourselves with a warm morning breakfast prepared by the Nepal nomad’s cook. The descent is required for being completely prepared for the ascent of the Himlung peak.

Again the day has come for acclimatization and rest which is the biggest requirement of mountain climbing adventure. One must be properly energized, acclimatized, fit, and ready.

The twentieth day is separated for flexibility in the summiting plan. There can be unpredicted weather patterns which can be riskier than other days, for which we will have to postpone our climbing plan. This day has been reserved to deal with unforeseen circumstances otherwise the day is not used and we go directly into ascending Camp I.

Again on the twenty-first day, we ascend Camp I in consideration of the weather. It will be a very early morning climb. Then, we will be staying overnight at Camp I in our tented camp.

On the twenty-second day, we will again summit Camp II for proper and full acclimatization and climbing preparation. Then, we will be staying overnight at an altitude of 6,150 meters in our tented camp.

Finally, with all our experiences, acclimatization processes, and practice hikes, we will be summiting the glorious Himlung Himal and strive to reach all the way to the top of 7,126 meters. We will be beginning the climb very early in the morning and following all the instructions given by our climbing expert. It is indeed going to be a moment of pride to stand on top of 7,126 meters. Then after the summit, we will be heading back to Camp II for our overnight stay as the big celebration remains due.

Today, we will be clearing and cleaning up all the wastage that was formed in the past days which includes the wastage of both Camp I and Camp II. Then, after finishing clearing up, we will be heading all the way to the Base Camp.

Here, cleaning and packing day means drying and cleaning up our clothes and ourselves. We will be packing all our stuff as now the journey will be inclining towards the ending. We will be spending another night at the Base Camp.

On the twenty-sixth day, we will be heading back to Phu Gaun from Base Camp. Our amazing journey is beginning to head towards its end. You can use the opportunity to taste some local ingredients at Phu Gaun and we can indeed celebrate our great accomplishment. We will be staying in our camp at Phu Gaun for the night.

On the twenty-seventh day, we will be heading for Meta and settling our camp around there at the elevation of 3,560 meters. We will be leaving Phu Gaun after early morning breakfast and face various ascents and descents as we move through the scented forest. We will be staying at Meta for the night.

On the twenty-sixth day, we will be moving towards Koto and settling our camp there for the overnight stay. This day marks the ending of our trekking journey and is the final day of our trek as for the next day; we will be heading for a drive.

Today, we will be hopping in a private vehicle and heading towards Besisahar situated at the height of 760 meters. It is likely to take us about four hours to reach Besisahar where we will be staying for the night.

Finally, on the thirtieth day of this amazing trekking and climbing adventure, we will be heading back to Kathmandu through a private vehicle. It is likely to take us about five hours to reach Kathmandu which will be an early morning drive. After we reach Kathmandu, you will be escorted back to your hotel and you can use the remaining day by exploring some unseen areas of the valley. We will certainly be celebrating your great achievement and having a farewell party.

Good to Know

Experience Required:

A good level of fitness and experience of mountain walking is required for the Himlung Expedition. These tend to be longer treks with some more difficult days, some of which may involve walking at increased altitudes and more difficult terrain. Occasionally, there may be a longer day when negotiating the more challenging sections such as a mountain pass or viewing peak. Altitude may range up to 7000 meters.

Pre-Trip Meeting:

Prior to set off to Himlung Expedition, we host a Pre-Trip meeting here in Kathmandu office on the 2nd day of your itinerary which starts in the evening during the dinner and introduce your trek Leader. It is an opportunity for individuals to ask questions about your Himlung Expedition as well as introduce you to one another.

Equipment Check List:

The specified basic equipments check lists should help you with your packing. Remember to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum. At the start of the trek your packed trek bag should not weigh more than 20 kg.

Head:-

For the head protection: Sun hat or scarf - Light balaclava or warm fleece hat - Sunglasses with UV protection.

Lower Body: -

Under Garments - Hiking shorts - Lightweight cotton long pants - Light weight hiking thermal bottoms - Fleece or wool pants – Waterproof trekking trousers -

A typical day:

At 6.30 am your Sherpa knocks on your door with a cup of good morning tea. Time for the Breakfast, tight up your bag pack and head off for today's trekking hiking for the next three to four hours then at pleasant spot we shall stop for an hour along the way for a well-prepared hot lunch. Later, a walk another three hours or so before you stop for the over night. The evening can be spent reading or chatting with your fellow hikers or trekking crew about the trip of the day. An asset can be pack of games to these nights; your trekking crew love teaching various Nepali card games and learning new Western games. Eventually, it's time to bed for a well deserved night.

Accommodation:

While at the Himlung Expedition, lodging options are limited so please do not expect the Ritz! Nepal Nomad utilizes simplistic family run lodges, with a large sociable central dining area and a cozy chimney burning fire. Lodges are on a twin share basis and we recommend you use your own sleeping bag. Accommodations in Himlung Expedition tend to have shared bathroom facilities and you may not always have access to a shower. Regardless of the lack of facilities, these lodges certainly have a rustic charm, most are blessed with spectacular views and being family run operations, they offer a great insight into the daily life of the Mountain people.

Insurance:

Nepal Nomad's booking terms & conditions of joining Himlung Expedition includes that you must be fully insured with medical, emergency rescue evacuations including trip cancellation insurance which should cover over 3000m to 7000m.

Altitude Sickness:

Itinerary of the Himlung Expedition is designed to ensure that there is plenty of times for adequate occurs as a result of acclimatization and cases of mountain sickness are rare. The common Symptoms are headaches, nausea, irregular breathing, insomnia and the swelling of fingers and glands. Medical Treatment is to descend to a lower altitude as quickly as possible which normally results in rapid improvement and recovery.

Meals:

On Himlung Expedition, three meals on full board basis will be provided (Nepali, Sherpa, and Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Chinese and Indian cousins). Every day dinner and breakfast will be placed and taken in the same lodge you spend over night but Lunch will be taken on your way to next village. Farewell dinner, breakfast and reception will be provided in Kathmandu.
