On the first day of your arrival, our representative with our office vehicle will be on a standby .After you are transferred to the hotel a pre-trek briefing on the trekking program and any last minute arrangements will schedules. You will get familiar to the surroundings as you go down the streets for a walk. Then a delicious local Nepali dinner will be served accompanied by cultural dance performed by the local belles.

On this particular day, we explore around Kathmandu City and visit to the two world heritage sites. This includes a visit to the Boudhanath Stupa known for its unique structure and as the biggest shrines in the world. For a more lighthearted day, a visit to Pashupatinath, situated on the banks of the holy Baghmati River which is considered as a home to the hundreds of thousands Hindus people and as the famous Hindu temple across the country where you will see Hindu holy men (sadhus) and pilgrims performing ritual bathing, and occasionally, funeral pyres burning on the Ghats. The cremation site here is used by the royal family and also for the simple man living next door. In the early afternoon you can relax to your hotel or do last minute shopping. From Kathmandu, we take an early flight to Pokhara after an early breakfast and get moved to the hotel. After relaxing and wandering around we will head to dine out at lake side restaurants (cost not included).

Our trek initiates with drive of 45 minutes in the morning to Nayapul from Pokhara. We then go down the hill to Birethanti progressively after the Bhurungdi Khola bank to arrive at the Tirkhedhunga where we stay our overnight there on the path.

The path for today proceeds to the suspension bridge as the track passes a stream at the Bhurungdi Khola from Tirkhedunga. We ascend to the Magars village which is large village of Ulleri (2070m). The track beautifully inclined with cultivated fields and pastures and the trail is filled with the dense forest of oak and rhododendron. At Nangethanti, we will stop there for a lunch. The Nepali word meaning for thanti is rest house. The path is covered with snow in the winter and then it is just an hour walk to Ghorepani from Nangethanti.

It is day six as we hike up to the designation of Poon Hill in the early morning to the farmed vantage point. Around 45 minutes of time and then you get the whole sight of the mesmerizing sunrise with a thrilling Himalaya views which extends from Dhaulagiri (8167m) to Manaslu (8156m) both being the world’s seventh and eight highest mountains. We are back in the camp and then we will have our warm breakfast. The beginning includes rhododendron forest to 3030m as you climb along the ridges. Then we descend to the Deurali and then reach Banthanti for lunch. The path becomes gentle and then we ascend to the Tadapani (2540m).

Today the designation is at Ghandruk from Tadapani where we go downhill to the forests of distinct rhododendron and the trees. At Ghandruk we will have our lunch which has given many Gorkha soldiers for the battle fronts and is one of the fascinating tribal Gurung villages on Nepal. The place is enclosed with the majestic mountains like Machhapuchhare, Annapurna South and the Himachuli. Activities information is provided at the ACAP office.

From Ghandruk the trail leads all the way down to the Modi Khola and then climbs to Landruk, another Gurung village at 1550m. From Landruk, it’s an easy walk on flat fields, and descends to Tolka a small settlement at 1710m, with several lodges along the trails. The trail now climbs through the forests and after crossing a stream on a suspension bridge at 1690m, the trail climbs to Bheri Kharka. We break for lunch at the top of hill at 2010m after climbing the trail through forest. From Deurali it is downhill all the way to Dhampus at 1580m, about two and a half hours via Pothana. At Dhampus, you will be rewarded with great mountain views. From Dhampus, we continue steeply downhill through the village until we reach Phedi at 1080m. From here we’ll drive back to Pokhara.

On day 9, we get up early in the morning to be ready for the arrival of your aircraft for the flight back to Katmandu. We will meet at the airport and shall be transferred to hotel. Please remark, our flight will be subject to good weather for the sake of our overall safety.

USEFUL INFORMATION

Experience Required:

A good level of fitness and experience of mountain walking is required for the Ghorepani Poon hill trekking. These tend to be longer treks with some more difficult days, some of which may involve walking at increased altitudes and more difficult terrain. Occasionally, there may be a longer day when negotiating the more challenging sections such as a mountain pass or viewing peak.

Pre-Trip Meeting:

Prior to set off to Ghorepani Poon hill trekking, we host a Pre-Trip meeting here in Kathmandu office on the 2nd day of your itinerary which starts in the evening during the dinner and introduce your trek Leader. It is an opportunity for individuals to ask questions about your Ghorepani Poon hill trekking as well as introduce yourself to one another.

Equipment Check List:

The specified basic equipments check lists should help you with your packing. Remember to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum. At the start of the trek your packed trek bag should not weigh more than 20 kg.

Head:-

Hands: - gloves that are Lightweight - Heavyweight gloves or mittens with a waterproof shell outer.

Sleeping bag (comfort rated –10ºC)*- Sleeping bag liner - Head torch with spare bulbs and batteries - Small pad or combination.

Trekking Bags: - Large bag for keeping items dry inside trek bag, Daypack 250 to 30litres. - Thermarest sleeping pad - Water bottles - Water purification tablets.

Basic First Aid Kit: - Antiseptic cream, throat lozenges, diarrhoea treatment (Imodium), altitude (Diamox), painkillers, plasters and blister treatment, insect repellent, and re-hydration salts (Dioralite). Glucose tablets and multi-vitamin tablets are also a good idea.

A typical day:

At 6.30 am your Sherpa knocks on your door with a cup of good morning tea. Time for the Breakfast, tight up your bag pack and head off for today's trekking hiking for the next three to four hours then at pleasant spot we shall stop for an hour along the way for a well-prepared hot lunch. Later, a walk another three hours or so before you stop for the over night. The evening can be spent reading or chatting with your fellow hikers or trekking crew about the trip of the day. An asset can be pack of games to these nights; your trekking crew love teaching various Nepali card games and learning new Western games. Eventually, it's time to bed for a well deserved night.

Accommodation:

While at the Ghorepani Poon hill trekking, lodging options are limited so please do not expect the Ritz! Nepal Nomad utilizes simplistic family run lodges, with a large sociable central dining area and a cozy chimney burning fire. Lodges are on a twin share basis and we recommend you use your own sleeping bag. Accommodations in the Ghorepani Poon hill trekking tend to have shared bathroom facilities and you may not always have access to a shower. Regardless of the lack of facilities, these lodges certainly have a rustic charm, most are blessed with spectacular views and being family run operations, they offer a great insight into the daily life of the Mountain people.

Insurance:

Nepal Nomad's booking terms & conditions of joining Ghorepani Poon hill trekking includes that you must be fully insured with medical, emergency rescue evacuations including trip cancellation insurance which should cover over 3000m to 6000m.

Altitude Sickness:

Itinerary of the Ghorepani Poon hill trekking is designed to ensure that there is plenty of times for adequate occurs as a result of acclimatization and cases of mountain sickness are rare. The common Symptoms are headaches, nausea, irregular breathing, insomnia and the swelling of fingers and glands. Medical Treatment is to descend to a lower altitude as quickly as possible which normally results in rapid improvement and recovery.

Meals:

On Ghorepani Poon hill trekking, three meals on full board basis will be provided (Nepali, Sherpa, and Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Chinese and Indian cousins). Every day dinner and breakfast will be placed and taken in the same lodge you spend over night but Lunch will be taken on your way to next village. Farewell dinner, breakfast and reception will be provided in Kathmandu.
