The 22 days Lumba Sumba Trek is certain to leave us wanting for more with various encounters of its remarkable wonders. On the first day of your arrival, our representative with our office vehicle will be on a standby .After you are transferred to the hotel a pre-trek briefing on the trekking program and any last minute arrangements will schedules. You will get familiar to the surroundings as you go down the streets for a walk. Then a delicious local Nepali dinner will be served accompanied by cultural dance performed by the local belles.

On this particular day, we explore around Kathmandu City and visit to the two world heritage sites. This includes a visit to the Bodhnath Stupa known for its unique structure and as the biggest shrines in the world. For a more lighthearted day, a visit to Pashupatinath, situated on the banks of the holy Baghmati River which is considered as a home to the hundreds of thousands Hindus people and as the famous Hindu temple across the country where you will see Hindu holy men (sadhus) and pilgrims performing ritual bathing, and occasionally, funeral pyres burning on the Ghats. The cremation site here is used by the royal family and also for the simple man living next door. In the early afternoon you can relax to your hotel or do last minute shopping. After an early morning breakfast, we head to the Kathmandu domestic airport and then finally take a flight to the Bhadrapur where we will then then after 5 hrs reach tot the Phoomling and stay at an overnight at the camp.

We begin our hike from the headquarter of the Taplejung District and then start our hike with the Sherpa village, the hiking then crosses to the amazing fields of the Alnus and the cardamom after that we then come across the accommodation for the facilities of homestay. After we have our lunch at Pawa village we then walk to the designation for the day Mitlung, where we will stay.

Today is day five, as we are heading to the Chhirwa; we begin with our trek from the Furumba, the path then take us to the Siwa Bazaar where we have our lunch. After lunch, we will start ascending to the Thiwa Village, we go downhill from this place and ultimately reach at the Chhirwa which is the minimarket with some of the lodges for the good camping sites, and this place is well known for the tourists as we stay overnight here at the Chhirwa.

We start our hike from the Chhirwa, today we trek through the majestic Tamor River. Mainly, with religious importance there are two big stones. The hike comes across through the landscapes as we then after walking for some hours from Chhirwa are welcomed with different tea shops. After lunch, we will take the walk at the Lelep which is the designation for the day. We stay for an overnight at the camp.

After an early breakfast, the hike then passes through lush forests that provide us with some beautiful wildlife species. We then reach at the monastery after ascending through the pine forests where our hike descends and we ultimately reach at the Gowatar which is known for spectacular waterfalls and then after an hour we are headed towards the Phedi. Then after hiking for 30 minutes or so we then reach at the IlaDanda which is our designation for the day. The place gives you an open door opportunity to witness the spectacular snowcapped mountains like Kasturi Peak and then the Tamor River, where we stay for an overnight.

Today’s day takes us to the Selep Kharka with an altitude of 2525m, our trek is blessed with the beauty of the Rhododendron and Ulnus forests as later passing the suspension bridge, we then come across the dense bamboo forest which is known for the habitat of the Red Panda. We reach to the Selep Kharka after an hour walk from the Ulnus forest and then we stay for an overnight here at the Selep Kharka.

Out from the Selep Kharka we head towards the Olangchung Gola beginning our trek with Jongim which is covered with the snowcapped hills and then after 40-50 minutes of the walk through the forest of rhododendron where we will see some mesmerizing waterfall . We ultimately reach at the Olangchung Gola where there is picturesque Sherpa Village.

The next day, the hike takes us to the Upper Langmale which is within the next three days as we come across different direction posts, sign posts and also pass through the rhododendron forests after that we will reach to the Upper Langmale at the altitude of 3893m. We stay at the overnight there.

The hike from the Upper Langmale to Pass Camp interesting as the snow leopard can be sighted if lucky as well as the trek ascends and descends. We pass through the Tamor River and then after 3 hrs, we finally take lunch at the camping site where we stay for an overnight to the Pass Camp.

One of the most challenging treks for today has to be this day. We pass through the peak of Lumba Sumpa as we ascend and descend. We pack our lunch after 4-5 hrs we then ascend to the peak of Lumba Sumpa and then stay for an overnight at the camp.

Today our hike descends from the Chaurikharka as we come back after tiring day where we then stay at the Thudam which is tiny village with Sherpas. We stay for an overnight here at the Thudam.

The trek runs to one of the glorious banks known as the Chujung Khola as the path offers one of the amazing peaks in the Makalu range. We trek for about 6-7 hrs to reach at the Yak Kharka which is at the altitude of about 2877m and then we stay for an overnight there with amazing meals.

The day passes through the rhododendron forests after we walk from the Yak Kharka for about three hours. We will see the view of the Chyamtang from the Chaurikharka after having some lunch we descend for about 3 hrs before we reach to the Arun River. Our designation for today is Chyamtang where we stay for the night.

Today the path crosses through the rhododendron forest passing by the Arun Valley we then hike to the Glimber Village where majestic snowcapped peaks can be seen after that we reach at the Hatiya which is a small village as this is the entrance gate to the Makalu National Park

Today the trek gradually takes us to the Gola which we reach after passing through the Barun and Arun Rivers where we have lunch and then after trekking for 6 hrs in general we then reach to the Gola which is one of the tiny villages.

After hiking out from the Gola, our designation for today is the HedangnaGadi. The hike passes across the beautiful paddy fields and then the lowlands, we reach at the Pathibara during lunch where there are several Gurung villages and then from there we head to Gadhi which has the great importance of the Nepali Army. We then spend here exploring the place.

Today is the last day of our trek as we hike descending till the Arun River after that we come across the Nun Village and from there the path drives us to the Tumlingtar where we stay for an overnight.

On day 20, we get up early in the morning to be ready for the arrival of your aircraft for the flight back to Katmandu. We will meet at the airport and shall be transferred to hotel. Please remark, our flight will be subject to good weather for the sake of our overall safety.

USEFUL INFORMATION

Experience Required:

A good level of fitness and experience of mountain walking is required for the Lumba Sumba Trekking. These tend to be longer treks with some more difficult days, some of which may involve walking at increased altitudes and more difficult terrain. Occasionally, there may be a longer day when negotiating the more challenging sections such as a mountain pass or viewing peak.

Pre-Trip Meeting:

Prior to set off to Lumba Sumba Trekking we host a Pre-Trip meeting here in Kathmandu office on the 2nd day of your itinerary which starts in the evening during the dinner and introduce your trek Leader. It is an opportunity for individuals to ask questions about your Lumba Sumba Trekkingas well as introduce yourself to one another.

Equipment Check List:

The specified basic equipment’s check lists should help you with your packing. Remember to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum. At the start of the trek your packed trek bag should not weigh more than 20 kg.

Head:-

For the head protection: Sun hat or scarf - Light balaclava or warm fleece hat - Sunglasses with UV protection.

Lower Body: -

Under Garments - Hiking shorts - Lightweight cotton long pants - Light weight hiking thermal bottoms - Fleece or wool pants – Waterproof trekking trousers -

Upper Body:-

As for the upper body’s shirts – Hiking and light weight thermal tops - Fleece jacket or pullover - Fleece Wind-Stopper jacket (optional) - Waterproof shell jacket - Down vest and/or jacket - Base layer shirts - Warm jacket (down)*

Hands: - gloves that are Lightweight - Heavyweight gloves or mittens with a waterproof shell outer.

Sleeping bag (comfort rated –10ºC)*- Sleeping bag liner - Head torch with spare bulbs and batteries - Small pad or combination.

Trekking Bags: - Large bag for keeping items dry inside trek bag, Daypack 250 to 30litres. - Thermarest sleeping pad - Water bottles - Water purification tablets.

Basic First Aid Kit: - Antiseptic cream, throat lozenges, diarrhoea treatment (Imodium), altitude (Diamox), painkillers, plasters and blister treatment, insect repellent, and re-hydration salts (Dioralite). Glucose tablets and multi-vitamin tablets are also a good idea.

Toiletries:- 1 medium sized quick drying towel - Tooth brush/paste - Multipurpose soap - Deodorants - Nail clippers - Face and body moisturizer - Feminine products - Small mirror - Wet wipes - toilet roll/Tissue Extras - Antibacterial hand wash

A typical day:

At 6.30 am your Sherpa knocks on your door with a cup of good morning tea. Time for the Breakfast, tight up your bag pack and head off for today's trekking hiking for the next three to four hours then at pleasant spot we shall stop for an hour along the way for a well-prepared hot lunch. Later, a walk another three hours or so before you stop for the overnight. The evening can be spent reading or chatting with your fellow hikers or trekking crew about the trip of the day. An asset can be pack of games to these nights; your trekking crew love teaching various Nepali card games and learning new Western games. Eventually, it's time to bed for a well-deserved night.

Accommodation:

While at the Lumba Sumba Trekking, lodging options are limited so please do not expect the Ritz! Nepal Nomad utilizes simplistic family run lodges, with a large sociable central dining area and a cozy chimney burning fire. Lodges are on a twin share basis and we recommend you use your own sleeping bag. Accommodations in the Lumba Sumba Trekkingtend to have shared bathroom facilities and you may not always have access to a shower. Regardless of the lack of facilities, these lodges certainly have a rustic charm, most are blessed with spectacular views and being family run operations, they offer a great insight into the daily life of the Mountain people.

Insurance:

Nepal Nomad's booking terms & conditions of joining Lumba Sumba Trekkingincludes that you must be fully insured with medical, emergency rescue evacuations including trip cancellation insurance which should cover over 3000m to 6000m.

Altitude Sickness:

Itinerary of the Lumba Sumba Trekking is designed to ensure that there is plenty of times for adequate occurs as a result of acclimatization and cases of mountain sickness are rare. The common Symptoms are headaches, nausea, irregular breathing, insomnia and the swelling of fingers and glands. Medical Treatment is to descend to a lower altitude as quickly as possible which normally results in rapid improvement and recovery.

Meals:

OnLumba Sumba Trekking, three meals on full board basis will be provided (Nepali, Sherpa, and Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Chinese and Indian cousins). Every day dinner and breakfast will be placed and taken in the same lodge you spend over night but Lunch will be taken on your way to next village. Farewell dinner, breakfast and reception will be provided in Kathmandu.
