On the first day of your arrival, our representative with our office vehicle will be on a standby .After you are transferred to the hotel a pre-trek briefing on the trekking program and any last minute arrangements will schedules. You will get familiar to the surroundings as you go down the streets for a walk. Then a delicious local Nepali dinner will be served accompanied by cultural dance performed by the local belles.

On this particular day, we explore around Kathmandu City and visit to the two world heritage sites. This includes a visit to the Bodhnath Stupa known for its unique structure and as the biggest shrines in the world. For a more lighthearted day, a visit to Pashupatinath, situated on the banks of the holy Baghmati River which is considered as a home to the hundreds of thousands Hindus people and as the famous Hindu temple across the country where you will see Hindu holy men (sadhus) and pilgrims performing ritual bathing, and occasionally, funeral pyres burning on the Ghats. The cremation site here is used by the royal family and also for the simple man living next door. In the early afternoon you can relax to your hotel or do last minute shopping. Out from Kathmadu, we take an early flight to Tumlingtar and then from there we will begin our hiking journey where we walk to the Khandbari for the 4 hrs which has the altitude of about 1040m and is the head office district of the Shankhuwasabha.

Today we head from Khandbari to Chichila where we pass the beautiful theatrical villages as well as the beautiful rhododendron forests to arrive at the Chichila which is the small arrangement place made of Gurung where we get to learn more about their culture and tradition. It takes about 6 hrs to reach there.

Today is day 5 where we climb uphill and descend with the spectacular sights of the beautiful Makalu and get to know the environment around it. After 6 hrs, we reach arNum and stay for an overnight.

After 5 hrs of descending and trekking to the steep trail which is rocky with the view of tiny terraced farms of barley and corn we ascend to the Seduwa which has the altitude of about 1493m and stay for an overnight there.

By passing through few streams and the large grasslands we ascend to the Tashigaun which is the Sherpa village and the ultimate settlement of the valley after 4 hrs trekking at the altitude of 2050m.

Procedding with the rockfall, we head to the Khongmala after 5-6 hrs of trekking out from the Tashigaun.

After an early breakfast, we head to see the beautiful morning sunrise sight and then after 6 hrs of hike passing through ultimate pond with progressive trek to downhill we then reach at Mumbuk which lies in the center of forests.

We preceed our trek and then ascend to the hill where we will stop for lunch and then head toward to YajilaKharka where we will stay for an overnight after 6 hrs in total of trekking.

We descend to and through the deep forest which is steep for about 6 hrs where we will reach at the YangleKharka as we spend our night here.

After 5-6 hrs of trekking, we head towards the kharkaMerak, where we stay there and then relish the beautiful sight of the Mt.Makalu which can be seen from here.

Our destination for today is the Makalu Base Camp which is at the altitude of about 4500m from the camp we can see the majestic Makalu which is known to be highest sixth peaks that is enclosed by the mighty peaks.

Since we have enough time, we discover the viewpoints and get acclimatized at the Makalu Base camp for acclimatization as we get to view the majestic Mt.Makalu and Barun.

After 5-6 hrs of trekking along the melted river side we hike through the gravel trail and then finally reach at the high camp or kuna camp and is also called as the Puja camp where we stay for an overnight.

Out from the Kuna Camp, we pack up for the hike to get the trek started to advance high camp, we must take our pace as we climb uphill as the altitude is revolutionary. We might suffer from the altitude sickness if we do not take sufficient breaks at the high terrain.

Today is day 17, as we head to the Barutse Base camp out from the advance high camp. The walk is progressive as we are accompanied by the best views.

Today we will be heading to the PanchPokhari as we trek for around 5 hours with the couples of ascends and descends. PanchPokhari refers to the five lakes. It is a holy lake and is significant to the pilgrimage sites as we stay there for an overnight near one of the lakes.

Leading on to the glacier, it takes about an hour to the narrow crest as we cross the gully above the camp the trail. The most interesting part of the climb starts with the glacier crossing as it is the time to rope –up and then put on our crampons. The slope leads on to the summit ridge. There are more picturesque mountain sights as the crest is beautifully fresh as we reach at Chhukung after 6 hrs trekking.

After breakfast follow the Imja Khola valley and trek to Dingboche. From Dingboche we cross the Khumbu Khola and ascend a short steep trail to the top of a small ridge for great views of the Imja valley, Ama Dablam and Kantega. We go downhill to the small town at Shomare and Orsho and later come across the Lower Pangboche and come to the suspension bridge of the Imja Khola River. We’ll then ascend gradually through Debuche and onto Thyangboche where we’ll spend the night.

After an early breakfast, we head descending thoroughly to the greenery and the beautiful forests of rhododendron and juniper then fir to Phunkitenga. After a break, we then take a cup of tea and come across Dudh Koshi and climb upward to the Trashinga. Afterward, the path outlines the upward valley through Shanasa and takes a walk Namche Bazaar where we will have our lunch then we go downhill to Monjo for an overnight stay.

Today is our last day of trekking. It’s only a brief walk along the valley before we make am ultimate hike up to the airstrip at Lukla. We’ll have lunch at our lodge and the afternoon is free for you to wander around, relax or perhaps have a hot shower which is the best thing to do after a trek of this kind! In the evening, we’ll have a farewell dinner followed by a little celebratory drink.

In the early morning, we prepare for the arrival of the striking flight back to Kathmandu. You will be transferred to your hotel and our aircraft will be subject and inclined to the good weather for the safety overall.

USEFUL INFORMATION

Experience Required:

A good level of fitness and experience of mountain walking is required for the Makalu Sherpani Col High Pass Trekking. These tend to be longer treks with some more difficult days, some of which may involve walking at increased altitudes and more difficult terrain. Occasionally, there may be a longer day when negotiating the more challenging sections such as a mountain pass or viewing peak.

Pre-Trip Meeting:

Prior to set off to Makalu Sherpani Col High Pass Trekking, we host a Pre-Trip meeting here in Kathmandu office on the 2nd day of your itinerary which starts in the evening during the dinner and introduce your trek Leader. It is an opportunity for individuals to ask questions about your Makalu Sherpani Col High Pass Trekking as well as introduce you to one another.

Equipment Check List:

The specified basic equipment’s check lists should help you with your packing. Remember to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum. At the start of the trek your packed trek bag should not weigh more than 20 kg.

Head:-

For the head protection: Sun hat or scarf - Light balaclava or warm fleece hat - Sunglasses with UV protection.

Lower Body: -

Under Garments - Hiking shorts - Lightweight cotton long pants - Light weight hiking thermal bottoms - Fleece or wool pants – Waterproof trekking trousers -

Upper Body:-

Hands: - gloves that are Lightweight - Heavyweight gloves or mittens with a waterproof shell outer.

Basic First Aid Kit: - Antiseptic cream, throat lozenges, diarrhoea treatment (Imodium), altitude (Diamox), painkillers, plasters and blister treatment, insect repellent, and re-hydration salts (Dioralite). Glucose tablets and multi-vitamin tablets are also a good idea.

A typical day:

At 6.30 am your Sherpa knocks on your door with a cup of good morning tea. Time for the Breakfast, tight up your bag pack and head off for today's trekking hiking for the next three to four hours then at pleasant spot we shall stop for an hour along the way for a well-prepared hot lunch. Later, a walk another three hours or so before you stop for the overnight. The evening can be spent reading or chatting with your fellow hikers or trekking crew about the trip of the day. An asset can be pack of games to these nights; your trekking crew love teaching various Nepali card games and learning new Western games. Eventually, it's time to bed for a well-deserved night.

Accommodation:

While at the Makalu Sherpani Col High Pass Trekking, lodging options are limited so please do not expect the Ritz! Nepal Nomad utilizes simplistic family run lodges, with a large sociable central dining area and a cozy chimney burning fire. Lodges are on a twin share basis and we recommend you use your own sleeping bag. Accommodations in the Makalu Sherpani Col High Pass Trekkingtend to have shared bathroom facilities and you may not always have access to a shower. Regardless of the lack of facilities, these lodges certainly have a rustic charm, most are blessed with spectacular views and being family run operations, they offer a great insight into the daily life of the Mountain people.

Insurance:

Nepal Nomad'sbooking terms & conditions of joining Makalu Sherpani Col High Pass Trekkingincludes that you must be fully insured with medical, emergency rescue evacuations including trip cancellation insurance which should cover over 3000m to 6000m.

Altitude Sickness:

Itinerary of the Makalu Sherpani Col High Pass Trekkingis designed to ensure that there is plenty of times for adequate occurs as a result of acclimatization and cases of mountain sickness are rare. The common Symptoms are headaches, nausea, irregular breathing, insomnia and the swelling of fingers and glands. Medical Treatment is to descend to a lower altitude as quickly as possible which normally results in rapid improvement and recovery.

Meals:

On Makalu Sherpani Col High Pass Trekking, three meals on full board basis will be provided (Nepali, Sherpa, and Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Chinese and Indian cousins). Every day dinner and breakfast will be placed and taken in the same lodge you spend over night but Lunch will be taken on your way to next village. Farewell dinner, breakfast and reception will be provided in Kathmandu.
