Welcome to Kathmandu! You are moved to the warmth of you hotel. On your routine a pre- trek briefing will be scheduled for the discussion of the trekking program and we co-ordinate any last minute arrangements. You can get accustomed with your surroundings by going for hike down the street. Then we head to the street for the delicious dinner where Nepalese Cuisine is prepared in Nepalese Style which is mainly known for its healthy ingredients. This is your first overnight in Kathmandu.

The day begins with an early breakfast with a guided trip to the capital city Kathmandu. The attractions in Kathmandu is sacred and historical where the landmarks estimated world heritage sites that includes the holy Hindu temple Pashupatinath, the ancient Durbar Square, the famous Monkey Temple and place of peace also known as Boudhanath. During afternoon we take a pre-trip preparation and discuss as well as get together with our trek guide and additional team members. Since our journey to Upper Dolpo officially begins with a flight from Nepalgunj to Jhupal, we will be heading to Nepalgunj first as there is no direct flight to Jhupal from Kathmandu. Here we get a beautiful day in our account to explore another wonderful city of Nepal. We will provide you with the best accommodations in the city for your proper rest before the beginning of Upper Dolpo adventure. If you feel like it, you can freshen up and take short walks to flex your muscles. We will be spending our night here in Nepalgunj.

We start our beautiful morning with warm breakfast before heading for our flight. Then we get ready to leave Nepalgunj after reaching the airport in search of the wonders possessed by the Dolpo region. This flight to Jhupal will begin our thrill with the magical view of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains. We will reach Jhupal within around 45 minutes. After a sound landing, our team will manage your baggages while you get prepared to start the trek to Chepka at the height of 2670m. We will spend our night at Chepka which would probably take around 2-3 hours of walk.

After having our breakfast, we get prepared for the trek to Renje which may last for about 5-6 hours. It can be a little challenging than the short trek we carried out the other day , consisting more of uphills. We will follow the trails used by locals surrounded by beautiful scenarios of hills and mountains along with the wildlife. We stay overnight at Renje.

We energize ourselves with some warm breakfast before heading for a 6-7 hours long trek. We would be trekking to Ringmo, a beautiful local village where one can explore the authentic culture and lifestyle of people. We will be accompanied by varios floras and faunas throughout this journey.

The seventh day of your Upper Dolpo trip is separated as a day for rest. One needs to recharge themselves to be able to undertake the next day perfectly without anyhealth issues. On this day, we will be exploring the Ringo village, and hike around its outskirts. We will get to know the cultural and traditional values of the local people along with their way of life. We will be enjoying the local hospitality with local ingredients for dinner. We will be staying overnight at Ringo village.

With enough rest and proper energizing, we begin our eighth day with a delightful breakfast. On this day, we will be heading to Chunemba which will be a trek for about 5-6 hours. Prayer flags and beautiful flowers will guide us throughout the trails of nature. If we are lucky enough, we might get to experience the sights of some rare wildlife. We end our trek for the day as soon as we reach Chunemba where we will be staying for the night.

We will end our stay at Chunemba with an incredible local breakfast and begin our walk to Lar Tsa which excels at the height of 4220m. It will be comparatively a shorter trek than the other day taking us about 4-5 hours to reach the destination for the day. We will be mostly walking through uphills, so it can be a little challenging but as soon as we reach Lar Tsa, every challenge would feels worth it.

We leave Lar Tsa heading for Mendok Din which stands at the height of 4610m. It won't take us long to reach there with more of a downhill path than the one we faced the other day. It will take us about 2-3 hours of walk to reach our destination for the day. We will be staying there for overnight.

Our eleventh day awaits us with its own challenges and rewarding wonders. On this day, we will be heading to Shey Gompa from Mendok Din. It is certainly going to be a long walk, probably longer than the ones we took before. We will be reaching to Shey Gompa after around 7-8 hours of walking through the beautiful trails accompanied by nature from all around. This time we will be facing downhill more than the uphill. It would indeed be a wonderful day yet a tiring one. We stay overnight at Shey Gompa.

With a walk that long, one probably needs rest to revive the energy of their body and muscles. So we separate our 12th day for resting. We take short walks around the beautiful Shey Gompa filled with cultural amd traditional essence. We will explore the natural beauty that surrounds its existence. This day will help us acknowledging everything that we might have missed in our tired walks. We will spend another night here at Shey Gompa before continuing our trek.

After having a reviving breakfast at Shey Gompa, we head towards another destination known as Namgung. This trek would take us to the height of 4430m. We will be spending all the energy gained from resting on our 6-7 hours walks which is mostly uphill. It is a little challenging with its own beautiful rewards.

We will be leaving Namgung after having our breakfast. Our fourteenth day will lead us to Karang at the height of 4050m. This trek would be comparatively shorter than the other day taking us a walk of 5-6 hours to reach our destination. The path will be mostly downhill. We will be getting a lot of beautiful views of landscapes as well as the comoany of wonderful forest. We will stay overnight at Karang

On the fifteenth day of our Upper Dolpo trek, we will be leaving Karang in the morning. Our destination for the day is Mugaon, a beautiful village filled with traditional essence. Being at the height of 4100m, trek to Mugaon can be a little tiring, taking us about 6-7 hours to reach there. Mugaon will offer us will plenty of gratifying scenarios which will wash all our tiredness away. We will be spending the night at Mugaon.

On this day, we will be heading for a more challenging trek as per the distance. We will be leaving Mugaon tohead Shiman which excels at the height of 4010m. The path is mostly uphill and takes us about 7-8 hours to reach the end of our walks for the day. This day can be tiring yet equally rewarding. We spend the night at Shimen.

After we have our early morning breakfast, we leave Shimen for Tinje. Reaching to Tinje would take us about 7-8 hours of walk with mostly uphills. Tinje would be our final destination for the day. Standing proudly at the height of 4150m, Tinje is a remarkable beauty of Upoer Dolpo region giving us the best scenarios.

After resting at Tinje , we leave for Rakpa that stands at a higher altitude of 4530m. It is also mostly uphill with only 170m as descent. Trekking to Rakpa can be a little challenging yet wonderfully adventurous. This trek to Rakpa will take us seven to eight hours of walk. We will be resting for the night at Rakpa before we head to another destination in the morning.

After enjoying the morning breakfast, we will be trekking for about seven to eight hours to reach an altitude of 4120m where Chharka lies. Chharka would be our destination for the day. The path we will be undertaking is incredibly beautiful with mostly downhill. We will be spending the night at Chharka before beginning our 20th day.

Our 20th day will be filled with the walks for about six to seven hours from Chharka. We will be having our energizing breakfast at Chharka and then leave for Norbulung. The altitude we will be reaching to is 4750 m well known for its gratifying views of landscapes and mountains. Trek to Norbulung is mostly filled with uphill paths with only 190m as descent. We will end our trek for the day after reaching to Norbulung and spend the night here.

Sangda Phedi would be our destination for the 21st day of Upper Dolpo trek. Standing gracefully at the extreme height of 5460m, Sangda Phedi brings its travelers closer to the gifts laid down by nature. A seven to eight hours walks would carry us to the wonderful destination. This trek will also be mostly uphill but less in comparison to the other day. We will stay overnight at Sangda Phedi.

On the 22nd day of this trek, we would be headingfor Sangda after having our breakfast at Sangda Phed. This trek to Sangda will probably last for about 7-8 hours until we reach there. The path is mostly downhill with only 460m as a part of uphill portion. The beautiful paths will take us to the height of 3700m where Sangda lies. We will be resting for the night at Sangda before we move for another day.

We will be leaving Sangda after having a wonderful breakfast. Our twenty third day will also be filled mostly with downhill paths taking us about 7-8 hours to reach the destination. The end of our trek is Dhagarjun where we will be staying overnight. Dhagarjun is a wonderful place for a peaceful stay. We will be resting here before undertaking another adventurous day.

On this day, we will be heading to Jomsom from Dhagarjun. We will be surrounded with the bustling market of Jomsom as soon as we reach there. It would indeed be a refreshing yet different surrounding after the challenging walks done throughout the 24 days of Upper Dolpo trek. We wikl take some rest at Jomsom and then on the same day, take a flight to Pokhara. We will stay overnight at Pokhara.

We will be arranging the transportation service as per your comfort. On the 25th day of this trip, we will be heading back to the city from where it all started looking back at the wonderful memories we created in the Dolpo region. We will spend our peaceful night at Kathmandu.

USEFUL INFORMATION

Experience Required:

A good level of fitness and experience of mountain walking is required for the Upper Dolpo treks. These tend to be longer treks with some more difficult days, some of which may involve walking at increased altitudes and more difficult terrain. Occasionally, there may be a longer day when negotiating the more challenging sections such as a mountain pass or viewing peak. Altitude may range up to 5000 meters.

Pre-Trip Meeting:

Prior to set off to Upper Dolpo treks, we host a Pre-Trip meeting here in Kathmandu office on the 2nd day of your itinerary which starts in the evening during the dinner and introduce your trek Leader. It is an opportunity for individuals to ask questions about your Upper Dolpo treks.as well as introduce you to one another.

Equipment Check List:

The specified basic equipment’s check lists should help you with your packing. Remember to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum. At the start of the trek your packed trek bag should not weigh more than 20 kg.

Head:-

For the head protection: Sun hat or scarf - Light balaclava or warm fleece hat - Sunglasses with UV protection.

Lower Body: -

A typical day:

At 6.30 am your Sherpa knocks on your door with a cup of good morning tea. Time for the Breakfast, tight up your bag pack and head off for today's trekking hiking for the next three to four hours then at pleasant spot we shall stop for an hour along the way for a well-prepared hot lunch. Later, a walk another three hours or so before you stop for the overnight. The evening can be spent reading or chatting with your fellow hikers or trekking crew about the trip of the day. An asset can be pack of games to these nights; your trekking crew love teaching various Nepali card games and learning new Western games. Eventually, it's time to bed for a well-deserved night.

Accommodation:

While at the Upper Dolpo treks, lodging options are limited so please do not expect the Ritz! Nepal Nomad utilizes simplistic family run lodges, with a large sociable central dining area and a cozy chimney burning fire. Lodges are on a twin share basis and we recommend you use your own sleeping bag. Accommodations in the Upper Dolpo treks tend to have shared bathroom facilities and you may not always have access to a shower. Regardless of the lack of facilities, these lodges certainly have a rustic charm, most are blessed with spectacular views and being family run operations, they offer a great insight into the daily life of the Mountain people.

Insurance:

Nepal Nomad's booking terms & conditions of joining Upper Dolpo treks includes that you must be fully insured with medical, emergency rescue evacuations including trip cancellation insurance which should cover over 3000m to 6000m.

Altitude Sickness:

Itinerary of the Upper Dolpo treks is designed to ensure that there is plenty of times for adequate occurs as a result of acclimatization and cases of mountain sickness are rare. The common Symptoms are headaches, nausea, irregular breathing, insomnia and the swelling of fingers and glands. Medical Treatment is to descend to a lower altitude as quickly as possible which normally results in rapid improvement and recovery.

Meals:

On Upper Dolpo treks, three meals on full board basis will be provided (Nepali, Sherpa, and Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Chinese and Indian cousins). Every day dinner and breakfast will be placed and taken in the same lodge you spend over night but Lunch will be taken on your way to next village. Farewell dinner, breakfast and reception will be provided in Kathmandu.
