After having an early morning breakfast in the morning, we ascend the small ridge behind the village above the Pheriche valley. During the afternoon, we have a steep and solid climb onto the rocky track to the top of the moraines. On the top of the ridge, we cross the line of the memorial cairns which is designed and founded for the memory of the Sherpas and the climbers who previously died on the expeditions for the last 50 years. From here the spectacular views of Khumbutse 6623m, Lingtren 6697m, Pumori 7145m, and from across the border in Tibet includes Changtse 7550m which we can see at the head of the valley. Everest is still concealed behind the towering walls of Lhotse and Nuptse. Following the valley stream at our lodge at Lobuje and today is a tough day but the spectacular view making it worthwhile. In the early afternoon, if we have energy and the conditions are clear, we reach the rear of the lodge and we are rewarded with more fantastic views.

After walking along the banks of the Khumbu glacier for about an hour, we reach Gorak Shep and continue on to Everest Base Camp. There is much ice and snow at Everest Base Camp. As we stand at the foot of Mt Everest, we can see Pumori (7161m), Lingtren (6714m), Khumbutse (6636m), Nuptse (7861m), Lobuche (6119m), Taboche (6542m), and the other Himalayan peaks. We gradually trek downhill to Gorak Shep after exploring the base camp. In Gorak Shep, we stay at a lodge for the night.
