Kongde Luxury Trek is one of the extraordinary hikes which brings diverse standpoint to the Solukumbhu Valley. The beautiful Kongde has an altitude of about 4250m which is located right in from of the Namche Bazaar which is also the primary place of the Sagarmatha National Park and has been divided by the Bhote Koshi Nadi River. We have to pass all the way to the highest of the Kongde as we pass the amazing Bhote Koshi Nasdi River bia the Thame and then begin with our uphill climb in the diagonal.

One journey begins with the Kongde Luxury Hike with the arrival at the domestic airport of the bustling city of Kathmandu and then we head towards the hotel as the representative of the Nepal Nomad shall pick you. Then on the next day, there will be the permit preparation and the briefing day on the trip where we later head back from the Kathmandu to the Lukla as we hike towards the Phakding. Out from the Namche we trek towards the Thame where we rest for the day here and then later to the main designation for the day to the Kongde where after breakfast walk about 3 hrs to approximately 500m to Farak Ri with panoramic birds eye views of entire Khumbu Valley and view of 8000m peaks; Cho Oyu, Ama Dalam, Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Thamserku and many other Peaks of Khumbu Valley such as Cholatse, Island Peak, etc. Get back to the resort for lunch & dinner and you can enjoy the spellbinding panoramic view of Tengboche monastery, Namche and Khumjung village. By heading to the sight of the Phakding valley with astounding sights of the great Mt. Thamserku and the Kangtega range we then head down through the TokTok village. Out from the Phakding we then move to the Lukla and head back to the Kathmandu by taking a striking flight. As we reach at the Kathmandu we will have some free day where later we then depart and reminisce on the journey as we head back to the home country.

During this hike to Kongde, one is sure to be moved to the magic trails and the mythical sights to experience oneself to the majestic peaks and to the top of the highest peak in the world. You are welcomed to the bustling city of Kathmandu, where you will be picked up at the Tribhuvan International Airport. With the placard of the Nepal Nomad, our representative will wait for you. You will be moved to the hotel where we will give you some short briefings about the trek king journey. Today we will stay for an overnight at the hotel.

Today you will have a free day in Kathmandu while your specialist will take time to arrange permits for your trek. You will have time to explore around the Kathmandu valley on your own or enjoy the cultural tour with an experienced tour guide arranged by Trek Guiders.

In the evening, you will be met by your specialist in your hotel lobby. S/he will introduce you to your guide for the trek and brief you shortly about your trek, things to do/ not to do, and any optional activities you may enjoy during the trip. You can ask any queries or share feelings with your specialist during the briefing.

After an early breakfast we head to the Kathmandu Hotel where we will be moved to the domestic terminal airport before an hour to the flight scheduled time. We then arrive at the Lukla where on the path we head down to the trails through the forest of the rhododendron as this the first day of the hike, we can relish amazing stops to meet the locals and then take astounding sights of the landscapes as we pass the big Mani Stones which is filled with the beauty of the prayer wheels just before we arrive at the Phakding. We then rest at the sun lounge or riverside gardens.

After a hearty breakfast at Phakding, start the trip to Namche following the left bank of Dudh Koshi River. You will get to catch a marvelous view of Mt. Thamserku (6623m) at the opposite side of the bank. After crossing a stream, you will climb a terraced hill from the Dudh Koshi route. Passing through a forest and trail with ups and downs, you will reach Monjo village after crossing another stream. Have your lunch here and rest some time.From Monjo, you will start descending on stone steps until you reach a suspension bridge. After crossing the bridge and climbing up for some time, you will reach Joshale which is the entry point to the Sagarmatha National Park. Your guide will take some time to verify the permits while you can have some rest sitting there.

Walking beside the river, you will reach a forested mountainside and pass a rocky area. We descend to the riverbed after passing the winding path and arrive at the V shaped valley where the left stream is the Bhote Koshi and the right stream is the Dudh Koshi that head towards the Nangpa La. Passing the short distance and another suspension bridge we then walk to the Bhote Koshi where we walk up hill to the Tup Dhara where we will witness the first gorgeous sight of the Mt. Everest. Right from here we then gradually ascend towards the Namche Bazaar which is also the capital of the Sherpas where we check in to the Yeti Mountain Home, Namche.

Today, right after breakfast at Namche, you will get to explore a couple of wonderful viewpoints of Namche Bazaar. You can choose to hike to Kunde Hospital set up by Sir Edmund Hillary in 1966 A.D in Kunde Village located at an altitude of 3840m. This hospital serves approximately 8000 people of Khumbu area and carries significant importance in this area.

You can also hike for an hour to reach Hotel Everest View, located in Khumjung village at an altitude of 3880m. This place is quite popular for a great view of Mt. Everest, Mt. Ama Dablam, and Mt. Lhotse. If you have time, you can also visit the Sherpa Culture Museum which in houses traditional Sherpa household, old artifacts, and everyday objects. It is the perfect place to get a sense of Sherpa life through the ages.

After lunch you are free to head down to the Namche market to browse the shops, chat with the locals and maybe pick up a souvenir or two. We can then see the Tibetan traders that make an yearly venture over the high passes from the Tibetan plateau with the yaks laden to sell the goods at the market. Late in the afternoon, there’s an option to visit Namche Monastery. The monastery is about 80 years old and has beautiful Thangka paintings of Tibetan deities. For your loved ones, you are most welcome to burn a butter lamp. Dinner at the lodge.

After your breakfast at Namche, you will start your trek to Thame today. You will follow the trail passing through beautiful pine forest and typical Sherpa homes. This route is also considered to be the historical route that Sherpas used to migrate from Eastern Tibet 800 years ago. Upon reaching the Thame Village, have some rest and enjoy your lunch.After lunch, you will ascend gradually passing by a monastery where nuns live and reach Samden village. From here, you descend down to the bridge and cross the Bhote Koshi river. Further upward walk of 30 minutes will take you to Thame village where you will be staying today.

Thame is famous for Thame Monastery, located 200m above the village and takes around half an hour walk to reach there from your lodge. It is set on the southern slope of Sumdur Mountain under a high rocky cliff. It's said that the monastery was built in the 14th century. Take some time to visit this incredible monastery after breakfast.Thame is one of the greatest villages of Solu Khumbu that is home to many young High altitude climbing Sherpas who have climbed Mt. Everest at least 6 - 24 times.

Today will be a bit long day walk up to Kongde. Right after breakfast, you will start walking downhill for around 30 minutes to Khumbu Electric Power House located at the other side of Bhote Koshi River. A further walk of 15 minutes will take you to a small village named Pare, which is a typical Sherpa village. Walking through the Pine and Bamboo forest, you will arrive in the glacier of Kongde Mountain with the fantastic views of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. Your guide will find some good place to enjoy your lunch, which will be a pack lunch prepared for your long day walk from the YMH lodge, Thame .After reaching Kongde after a long walk of around 7 - 8 hours, which often depends on your walking speed and rest time taken during the trek, get some rest enjoying the views of the Himalayas.

After an early breakfast we head towards the Phakding by heading to the sight of the Phakding valley with astounding sights of the great Mt. Thamserku and the Kangtega range we then head down through the TokTok village before we reach to the Phakding.

Today is your ultimate day of trekking. After breakfast at Phakding, you will walk to Lukla for around 3 hours. You can take some time to visit Chaurikharka High School and Kyongma Monastery on the way back. On reaching Lukla, you can check in to YMH lodge and relax the rest of the day or visit Pasang Lhamu Foundation hospital as an option.

Today is a good time to bid your porters and other crew members a farewell with tips and gratitude. Enjoy your last night of the trek in YMH, Lukla.

Out from the peaks we will head back to the Kathmandu to have an early breakfast we shall fly back to the Kathmandu as soon as we leave from the Airport of the Lukla. If you have time, one can take rest for a will and stay for an overnight at the Hotel.

Today is an extra day kept as a buffer day in case the flight back to Kathmandu gets disturbed due to any weather contingencies. However, if you succeeded in landing Kathmandu on the previous day, you can enjoy short day tour or have some shopping in the market to purchase a token of memory from Nepal to your home.

Today we fly back to home after all this amazing encounter to beautiful places around the country. The head of the Nepal Nomad shall take you to the TIA airport where one should check in before 3 hours to the flight scheduled.

USEFUL INFORMATION

Experience Required:

A good level of fitness and experience of mountain walking is required for the Kongde Luxury Trek. These tend to be longer treks with some more difficult days, some of which may involve walking at increased altitudes and more difficult terrain. Occasionally, there may be a longer day when negotiating the more challenging sections such as a mountain pass or viewing peak.

Pre-Trip Meeting:

Prior to set off to Kongde Luxury Trek, we host a Pre-Trip meeting here in Kathmandu office on the 2nd day of your itinerary which starts in the evening during the dinner and introduce your trek Leader. It is an opportunity for individuals to ask questions about your Kongde Luxury Trek as well as introduce you to one another.

Equipment Check List:

The specified basic equipments check lists should help you with your packing. Remember to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum. At the start of the trek your packed trek bag should not weigh more than 20 kg.

Head:-

For the head protection: Sun hat or scarf - Light balaclava or warm fleece hat - Sunglasses with UV protection.

Lower Body: -

Under Garments - Hiking shorts - Lightweight cotton long pants - Light weight hiking thermal bottoms - Fleece or wool pants – Waterproof trekking trousers -

Upper Body:-

As for the upper body’s shirts – Hiking and light weight thermal tops - Fleece jacket or pullover - Fleece Wind-Stopper jacket (optional) - Waterproof shell jacket - Down vest and/or jacket - Base layer shirts - Warm jacket (down)*

Hands: - gloves that are Lightweight - Heavyweight gloves or mittens with a waterproof shell outer.

Sleeping bag (comfort rated –10ºC)*- Sleeping bag liner - Head torch with spare bulbs and batteries - Small pad or combination.

Trekking Bags: - Large bag for keeping items dry inside trek bag, Daypack 250 to 30litres. - Thermarest sleeping pad - Water bottles - Water purification tablets.

Basic First Aid Kit: - Antiseptic cream, throat lozenges, diarrhoea treatment (Imodium), altitude (Diamox), painkillers, plasters and blister treatment, insect repellent, and re-hydration salts (Dioralite). Glucose tablets and multi-vitamin tablets are also a good idea.

Toiletries:- 1 medium sized quick drying towel - Tooth brush/paste - Multipurpose soap - Deodorants - Nail clippers - Face and body moisturizer - Feminine products - Small mirror - Wet wipes - toilet roll/Tissue Extras - Antibacterial hand wash

A typical day:

At 6.30 am your Sherpa knocks on your door with a cup of good morning tea. Time for the Breakfast, tight up your bag pack and head off for today's trekking hiking for the next three to four hours then at pleasant spot we shall stop for an hour along the way for a well-prepared hot lunch. Later, a walk another three hours or so before you stop for the over night. The evening can be spent reading or chatting with your fellow hikers or trekking crew about the trip of the day. An asset can be pack of games to these nights; your trekking crew love teaching various Nepali card games and learning new Western games. Eventually, it's time to bed for a well deserved night.

Accommodation:

While at the Kongde Luxury Trek, lodging options are limited so please do not expect the Ritz! Nepal Nomad utilizes simplistic family run lodges, with a large sociable central dining area and a cozy chimney burning fire. Lodges are on a twin share basis and we recommend you use your own sleeping bag. Accommodations in the Kongde Luxury Trek tend to have shared bathroom facilities and you may not always have access to a shower. Regardless of the lack of facilities, these lodges certainly have a rustic charm, most are blessed with spectacular views and being family run operations, they offer a great insight into the daily life of the Mountain people.

Insurance:

Nepal Nomad's booking terms & conditions of joining Kongde Luxury Trek includes that you must be fully insured with medical, emergency rescue evacuations including trip cancellation insurance which should cover over 3000m to 6000m.

Altitude Sickness:

Itinerary of the Kongde Luxury Trek is designed to ensure that there is plenty of times for adequate occurs as a result of acclimatization and cases of mountain sickness are rare. The common Symptoms are headaches, nausea, irregular breathing, insomnia and the swelling of fingers and glands. Medical Treatment is to descend to a lower altitude as quickly as possible which normally results in rapid improvement and recovery.

Meals:

On Kongde Luxury Trek, three meals on full board basis will be provided (Nepali, Sherpa, and Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Chinese and Indian cousins). Every day dinner and breakfast will be placed and taken in the same lodge you spend over night but Lunch will be taken on your way to next village. Farewell dinner, breakfast and reception will be provided in Kathmandu.
