Today, we will be heading for Dharapani through an exciting drive that will take us all the way to 1,860 meters within eleven to twelve hours. We will be passing through the beautiful town of Besisahar along the way. It will indeed be an incredible driver as we will be witnessing some amazing landscape formations and snowcapped mountain peaks. We will be staying overnight at Dharapani

  • Altitude: 1,860m

From Dharapani, we will be leaving for Chame after having early morning breakfast at Dharapani. We will be heading to reach an altitude of 2,715 meters which is likely to take us about six hours to reach. Along the way, we will be moving through dense forest filled with blooming rhododendrons. Magical waterfalls which we encounter along the path are certain to wash our tiredness away. We will be staying at Chame for the night.

On the third day, we leave Chame after energizing ourselves with a warm breakfast and make our way towards Pisang which is situated at an altitude of 3,185 meters. It is likely to take us about five hours to reach Pisang from Chame. We will be moving through the trails of a narrow river valley which will lead us through deep forest of pines, conifers and rhododendrons. We will be staying overnight at Pisang.

Today, we will be extending our steps toward Manang from Pisang after having our early morning breakfast. We will conduct a walk for about five hours to reach Manang situated at an elevation of 3,350 meters. Today, we have a choice of two routes which will ultimately lead to Manang. However, you will be encountered with the glorious sight of Annapurna Mountain from any route.

The fifth day has been selected for acclimatization and resting purpose which is a must for adjusting to the altitude and avoiding any sort of health risks that come with the sudden change in elevations.

We will leave Manang through the western gates and walk down to the river. After crossing the river, we will walk through coniferous forests on its southern side. After we reach Kangsar Village, we will walk further up to Siri Kharka by passing a monastery en route. The uphill walk could be tiring, but with Gungang Himal and Mount Chulu as our backdrop, there's no need to worry. Stay overnight at a guesthouse.

We will have to walk over narrow paths in loose scree and landslide-prone terrain to reach the Tilicho Base Camp, which isn't very steep or physically strenuous, but it can be exhausting. We can see impressive rock formations along the trail as our trail goes through the middle of the landslide area. Spend the night at the Tilicho Base Camp. You'll stay at a guesthouse and receive breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

After the initial tough ascent, our trail continues to meander along the mountainside in a gradual steep incline before reaching the watershed. Along the way, we can see yaks and deer grazing. Tilicho Lake, nestled at the foot of the north face of Tilicho Peak, is the other side of the ridge. The French expedition team leader referred to the lake as 'The Great Ice Lake'. In addition to being a sacred lake, the Lake is also mentioned in one of the holiest texts of the Hindus, The Ramayana. We will retrace our steps and return to Siri Kharka.

As we leave Siri Kharka, we will descend toward Khangsar Village. There is a thousand-year-old monastery called Tare Gumba that is very important to the locals in the area. We find Khangsar Village to be uninhabited except for a few herders during festival seasons. We will walk along a rock wall outside of Khangsar until we reach a seasonal bridge in the Thorang Khola valley. We will continue ascending to a plateau after crossing the river. Yak Kharka is our next destination. We will stay at a guest house for the night.

Today, our destination will be Thorong Phedi which we will be reaching within six hours of walk. We will be leaving Ghunsa after an early morning breakfast and start moving towards Thorong Phedi High Camp which is further at an elevation of 4,780 meters. We will be staying overnight at Thorong Phedi which is a tiny village existing near the beautiful Marsyangdi river.

On the twelfth day, we will be crossing the amazing Thorong La Pass situated at an altitude of 5,416 meters which will further lead us to Muktinath after a descent of a few hours. We will be leaving Thorong Phedi early in the morning after having a wonderful breakfast. After reaching Muktinath, we can use the remaining time by exploring around the sacred place filled with values of religion and culture. We will be staying overnight at Muktinath

From Muktinath, we will be descending down to Jomsom which is situated at an elevation of 2800 meters and is likely to take us about five hours to reach. We will be connecting the trek from Kali Gandaki valley lading all the way to Marpha which is famous for its production of apples. While you are at Marpha, it will be great if you get a taste of the locally made Apple Brandy. We will be staying overnight at Jomsom.

On the sixteenth day, we will be catching an early morning flight from Jomsom to Pokhara to avoid any harsh weather conditions. It will indeed be a scenic flight as we fly above the beautiful clouds enjoying the amazing snowcapped scenarios of the Annapurna Himalayas. Connecting flight back to Kathmandu from Pokhara. However, if you want to, you can even head to Kathmandu on a driver which will slightly take more time. From Pokhara, it will take us about thirty minutes on a flight. You can use the remaining day in Kathmandu by exploring some unseen places of Kathmandu

USEFUL INFORMATION

Experience Required:

A decent degree of wellness and experience of mountain strolling is required for the Tilicho Lake Thorong la pass trek. These will in general be longer treks with some increasingly troublesome days, some of which may include strolling at expanded heights and progressively in challenging surroundings. Once in a while, there might be a more extended day due to the change in the nature of the trails and the environment. Elevation may go up to 5000 meters.

Pre-Trip Meeting:

Before going for Tilicho Lake Thorong la pass trek, we will be hosting a Pre-Trip assembly right here in Kathmandu office which is usually on the 2nd day as per your itinerary which starts in begins in the afternoon. There will be introduction sessions as well.

Equipment Check List:

Remember to keep the equipment weight down to a minimum level. Your packed trekking bag should not contain the weight more than 20 kg at the start of the trek. The following checklists listed for specific equipment will help you with your packing;

Head:-

For the head protection: Sun hat or scarf - Light balaclava or warm fleece hat - Sunglasses with UV protection.

Lower Body: -

Under Garments - Hiking shorts - Lightweight cotton long pants - Light weight hiking thermal bottoms - Fleece or wool pants – Waterproof trekking trousers -

Feet: - lightweight thin inner socks - Thick, warm wool hiking socks - Hiking boots with spare laces - Camp shoes – Gaiters (optional)

Upper Body:-

As for the upper body’s shirts – Hiking and light weight thermal tops - Fleece jacket or pullover - Fleece Wind-Stopper jacket (optional) - Waterproof shell jacket - Down vest and/or jacket - Base layer shirts - Warm jacket (down)*

Hands: - gloves that are Lightweight - Heavyweight gloves or mittens with a waterproof shell outer.

Trekking Bags: - Large bag for keeping items dry inside trek bag, Daypack 250 to 30litres. - Thermarest sleeping pad - Water bottles - Water purification tablets.

Basic First Aid Kit: - Antiseptic cream, throat lozenges, diarrhoea treatment (Imodium), altitude (Diamox), painkillers, plasters and blister treatment, insect repellent, and re-hydration salts (Dioralite). Glucose tablets and multi-vitamin tablets are also a good idea.

A typical day:

At 6.30 a.m. a Sherpa will be knocking with a cup of good morning tea on your door right at the time for breakfast. We will tight our bag pack and head out for today's walk for about four hours before stopping for lunch.. Later, we will again be walking for another three or so hour walk before you rest for the night over. You may spend the evening reading, or chatting or playing games. You can even use your time for exploration purpose.

Accommodation:

During the Tilicho Lake Thorong la pass trek, there won’t be many options for lodging and one will have to use shared Bathroom facilities with very minimum access to shower which sometimes may not be available. However, it will be a homely environment since there are mostly family lodges including

Altitude Sickness:

There are acclimatization plans included within the itinerary in order to deal with the challenges regarding the height which is often known as altitude sickness, often causing nausea, headache, vomiting, breathing problems and some other systems. There is the provision of emergency evacuation in severe cases as per your medical and evacuation insurance.

Meals:

Three meals will be provided as per your taste and choice which is available in the region, on full board basis. Dinner and breakfast will be served in your overnight stay accommodations. However, we will be having lunch while on the middle of the journey.
